Strong Interest in BUGA Dresden 2033 at the “Open City Hall” Event

Despite the weather-related relocation of the BUGA “Mile of the Future” to the Stadtforum, many Dresden residents took advantage of this year’s “Open City Hall” event to learn about the 2033 Federal Horticultural Show and talk with the BUGA team.

BUGA Dresden 2033 gGmbH, together with the Saxony Association for Garden, Landscape, and Sports Field Construction (VGLS), the Central German Horticultural Association, and the Friends of BUGA Dresden 2033 Association, provided an update on the current status of the planning. The proximity to the exhibition showcasing the designs for the new Carolabrücke underscored the role of BUGA as one of Dresden’s key future projects.

The focus was on the numerous conversations with visitors. Whether it was questions about the core areas, participation formats, ideas for Dresden’s future, or simply a general interest in the BUGA: the discussions were wide-ranging and demonstrated just how great the interest in this forward-looking project already is today.

A special highlight was the visit by Lennard Weitzmann and Marc-Aurel Spalek from Wirth & Wiener GmbH in Chemnitz. The 2025 German Landscape Gardening Champions will represent Germany in September at WorldSkills 2026 in Shanghai. As the first official BUGA ambassadors, they will also represent the 2033 Federal Horticultural Show in Dresden on the international stage. Mayor Dirk Hilbert and BUGA Managing Director Marcel Timmroth presented the two up-and-coming talents with training equipment to help them prepare for the WorldSkills competition.

The hands-on activities for children and teens were also very well received. Many young visitors got creative, designed their own BUGA flowers, and engaged with the Federal Horticultural Show in a playful way. In many places, the anticipation for BUGA 2033 was already clearly palpable.
